MacMania11 - Day 11
Despite having dull and cloudy weather at sea for the past two days, we pulled into Puerto Montt, Chile, to bright sunshine. I know it’s the summer here in South America, but we just can’t believe how lucky we’ve been with the weather. Every port (OK, except for the Falkland Islands, where it was cloudy but dry), we’ve had glorious weather and the locals have commented on how the weather has been better than normal for this time of year.
The downside is that all the cold weather clothes we brought could have been left at home, but that’s a small price to pay!
No sessions today, so a lie in and some final keynote tweaking and polishing for an hour or two, a wander around the decks and then off on one of the ships Tenders to cross over to the shore. A slight miscalculation on where we needed to be for our afternoon excursion, but we made it.
The tour was a YABT - Yet Another Bus Tour - taking us this time to a Patagonian Rain Forest. More of a carefully replicated rain forest for tourists than the actual thing but what the heck. A pleasant walk , some nice food and great company and then back on the bus to return to the ship.
There have been several pre-dinner get togethers on this trip, some sponsored by Insight Cruises/Macworld (free bar) and some with a Cash Bar. It’s a great idea to meet up with your fellow MacManiacs and discuss how your day has been or what you thought of the sessions on class days. This particular group is fantastic and very friendly, in some respects, it’s like a big extended family.
So another day at sea tomorrow, and the final day of sessions. I get to finally finish my program with two sessions back to back, starting at 8:30 and finishing at Noon. I’m just so glad to have got through them without incident, especially not becoming ill or losing or straining my voice. Everyone has been very receptive and has said good things about them. I suppose my experience of creating a screencast every week for the past 5 years has counted for something.
Ah well, time for bed, just as the ship pulls out of the channel and into the Pacific for the trip up to Santiago (Valpariso). Yep, I can feel the swell building up!
