I'm Back!
Arrived safely back at home yesterday following a long, but thankfully uneventful, trip from Santiago. Seems like much longer than three and a half weeks since we set out to travel to Macworld and then on to South America. Luckily, I was able to keep on top of the bulk of the emails remotely, and I was able to publish the shows due for those weeks, whilst out and about. There were some emails...

MacMania11 - Day 5
Decided to take the shorter trip to see the Penguins at Bluff Cove here in the Falkland Islands. It meant we didn’t have to leave until 10am and would be back around 3pm, just in time for my first sessions at 4pm. Really strange being in the Falklands after hearing so much about them during the war in 82. Virtually every place name resonated with me and brought back memories of the various...

MacMania11 - Day 4
Another full day at Sea. So sleep, breakfast, keynote, lunch, keynote, cocktail party, dinner, bar, emails. The swell has subsided so it’s been much calmer today. Managed to finalise all the slide sets for all the presentations (OK, except for the last one) and did a quick run through the two sessions I need to deliver tomorrow. We arrive in Port Stanley, Falkland Islands tomorrow at 8am....

MacMania11 - Day 3
Mainly a working day today. Despite a heavy swell, I’ve spent most of the day working on my sessions, which start on Tuesday. The constant motion of the boat and putting together Keynote animations and transitions don’t sit too well together! Another full day at sea tomorrow. expecting to dock in the Falkland Islands on Tuesday morning at 8am. Internet access from the ships very hit...

MacMania11 - Day 2
Arrived in Montevideo, Uruguay a little later than planned but as we weren’t planning on getting up early, it wasn’t a problem. We’d arranged to go on a planned excursion to view the “Architecture and Old Town” later in the day. In retrospect, the town was so close to the Ship we probably would have been better off just walking off the Ship and looking around. As...

First Day - MacMania11
Settled in the cabin (Stateroom no less). No balcony this time, but a big picture window, which is fine by me. Some of the rooms have sliding doors that lead onto a walkway around the ship, but ours is more traditional. Initial impressions of Holland America are excellent with the ship having great facilities and seemingly in good order! Even more people joined today making the MacMania group...

On the Ship
Finally made it onto the ship. One of the smoothest embarkations ever! Time to unpack (at last) as we’ve been living out of a suitcase for nearly two weeks. Ship due to sail at 9pm so time to explore.

Next Stop Iguazu Falls
On board a short internal flight (2 hours) to visit the spectacular Iguazu Falls. In Iguazu for 2 days. May not be able to post any photos. Hope the hotel has Internet access!

Morning in South America
Got into Buenos Aires yesterday after a long flight from Macworld in San Francisco. Managed to get some sightseeing in, confirm that the water does in fact go clockwise down the plug hole and the fact that it’s possible to get sunburnt in just a few short hours. Early rise this morning to checkout of our hotel and a short internal flight to catch the Iguazu Falls. Will report back!

3UK introduces a shiny new 3G to WiFi (MiFi)... →
I’ve been a bit remiss in that I have not found time to blog about my experiences with the MiFi from 3. My biggest complaint was that it took three separate presses and hold on three separate buttons to turn the thing on and connect to wifi and 3G. Bonkers! Looks like the new model removes this problem and has just a single button. Worth checking out
